The Disease Prevention and Health Promotion division of the department focuses on programs to screen for and prevent illnesses and health issues.
- Chronic Disease Prevention and Control works to promote health and quality of life, and to prevent and control disease.
- Communicable Disease
- Health Screening Services are provided for many communicable diseases.
- Hepatitis offers hepatitis immunizations and testing, perinatal Hepatitis B program, and Hepatitis C prevention.
- HIV/AIDS offers counseling, case management, education, and testing for those at high risk for contracting HIV.
- Sexually Transmitted (STD) Diseases provides counseling and testing, outreach and education, case management, and HIV Surveillance.
- Tuberculosis program provides evaluation of clients for latent and active TB disease.
- Immunizations offers immunization services for children (Shots for Tots) and some for adults ( Big Shots)
- Injury Prevention works with partners in the community to incorporate injury prevention efforts into their ongoing programs.
- Refugee Services provide a health screening clinic for refugees relocating the Austin/Travis County area.
